Steps To Nourishing Transformative Health

This past week I had the conversation, with several customers, about talking to family and friends about health and how challenging a task it can sometimes be. The people you care the most about, often times, will completely reject and sometimes carry out the complete opposite of what you promote. So, what can you do to help them?
First of all, understand that if someone has a "Truth" set in their mind, sometimes it takes time to transform that thought. For example, the "truth" our company works toward breaking is "a healthy diet tastes terrible" or "making healthy changes is hard". Many of you know that doesn't have to be the case. But what is "Healthy" to one person might look totally different to another person. The key is to offer small steps in health that are comparable to what they are familiar with.
Always connect a positive association with health changes. What I mean is when telling someone about something healthy it shouldn't start as "You shouldn't do this". If a person who is new to natural health is only hearing all the things they can't do, they will become overwhelmed and give up. Transforming health should open doors for people, give them new options. Make it a memorable and enjoyable experience. Tell them all the things they "should do".
When it comes to the serious stuff, patience is key. Support and subtle conversation. Plant seeds. For example, if you have a friend who just received a cancer diagnosis, it might not be a good idea to bombard them with all the things they can't eat. I mean, if they are open and want to learn, by all means, share! But if they become stressed, overwhelmed and frustrated, the stress can have a negative impact on their health also. Remember that if your goal is to help, there are more ways to help than to turn their world upside down in a radical shift. Even if that is what they need, if they are not ready for the information, it can very much be harmful to try to push it on them.
An important thing to remember also is that when re-establishing new "truths", foundation is key. What you say might not stick, but it plants a seed. When your family member or friend hears the same things from others it will build a foundation. Someday your friend might even come to you and say "Did you know..." In this situation resist the urge to proclaim, "I've been telling you that for YEARS!" and instead say "you are absolutely right! I've heard that too!" Give them rewarding phrases, don't chastise them for taking so long to establish the truth you knew all along. Remember that the goal is not to stroke your own ego, but to strengthen their knowledge in good health practices.
Practice what you preach. If you know all the right things but don't do them yourself, why would anyone listen to you? If you want to lead others in Health and Wellness, helping to transform our community to grow in better health, be the shining example. We can all make such a great impact. Small steps can take us far! God bless you, your family and friends! Together we can make a great difference.
