Historically folk lore surrounds the observance of the full moon. It is an event that sparks mysticism and spiritual energies. In the past century we have discovered through studies that the lunar cycles widely influence biological activities on earth through circadian rhythms, aquatic and insect reproductivity, coral reef blooms, along with psychological, hormonal and behavioral changes on biological systems. There have been found to be direct effects on humans patterned by the cycles of the moon.
Some of our earliest writings uncover relevance in following the lunar cycles. In Genesis 1:14 it is commanded that we observe the lights of the expanse for signs and for seasons. The Jewish traditional feasting days are centered on each new moon. If we consider the opposite of a feast, that would be to fast. Fasting is known to enhance immune function through initiating apoptotic activities in cellular cleanse.
In holistic medicine it is common practice to center a parasite cleanse optimally with the focal point during the full moon. This is because parasites are known to be more active at the height of the full moon.
Melatonin is a chemical produced in the body that inhibits serotonin. Serotonin is associated with depression and anxiety. Melatonin initiates sleepiness and enhances the sleep cycle. Melatonin’s effects on parasites have been studied and revealed that melatonin increases parasite mortality and reproductivity.
When the moon is at its fullest, melatonin production decreases. Some hypothesize that this is due to the lunar glow that hinders melatonin production, however studies have been preformed eliminating observance on the moon’s light in sleep studies with the same result. Possibly electromagnetic fluctuation? Regardless, the lack of melatonin can influence mood, hinder sleep and enhance parasite activity.
We all have microbes within us, little micro-organisms working within the framework of our bodies. Some of these microbes are beneficial such as the good gut flora. They enhance detoxification and metabolic processes. There are other microbes that that harm the host called parasites. Those can include intra-cellular bacteria, worms, candida, viruses, and a variety of other harmful micro-organisms. The goal of a good parasite cleanse will cover some of the following:
· Nourish immunity & natural defense mechanisms.
· Open detoxification pathways.
· Flush out parasites & toxins they release.
· Eliminate white sugar, highly processed, refined and boxed foods.
· Possible water fast, juice fast or intermittent fasting.
· Plenty hydration to flush out colon and cleanse.
This coming moon will be the Harvest Moon. There are so many spiritual parallels with the harvest and countless scriptures that point to the harvest of souls. I find that the best health actions consider the mind, body and spirit. A full moon can influence the mind psychologically, can affect our body encouraging parasite growth, however the spirit is a less measurable aspect we observe. Monday, October 6th will be the first supermoon we will experience in a succession of three. A supermoon means that it will be closer to earth than any other this year, making it much larger and amplifying the effects on biological lifeforms. Meditation and prayer may be more pronounced and fruitful during this heightened time of electromagnetic energy. Reviving the spirit and strengthening the soul.
